QUIK CAP:
Bring itROCK Vegas! Week #2 of the Electric Wednesday Showcase reminded me humbly that Las Vegas is such a small world. Case in point: Darren Copeland from my high-school-party memories opened the night with Art Rock Circus (John Miner: guitar/front; Darren Copeland: bass; Nolan Stoltz: drums). Their “straight-outta-the-70’s” sound sparked psychodelic flashbacks in everyone’s brain, “Labrynth” keeping them going when we were sure the trip could take us no farther! Just wanted to let everyone know I'm alive and well in Los Angeles. How I got here is a story for another day, but leave to say I am in one piece (as far as I can tell...) and have just begun pre-production on what will become Mantra Sunrise's second album. I spoke with John a couple of nights ago; he's ready to go, as is Nolan, our exemplary drummer and generally fantastic human (Actually, they've been ready for quite some time. While in the midst of writing, however, I suddenly found myself, not in my familiar Pacific Northwest, but in a log cabin in California's Sierra Nevada mountains. The rest of the story, for now, is Top Secret.)
In any event, we expect to release the new album by the first part of 2002. The working title is 'Sci-Fi Lullaby', and will more than likely be a theme album from start to finish. I'll keep you posted as things progress.
Before I go, I want to say thanks to everyone who has taken an interest in Mantra Sunrise and our Tributary sister bands.
Much Love,
ART ROCK CIRCUS double album has been moving ahead of schedule estimated release date Summer 2001 http://www.tributarymusic.com/
MANTRA SUNRISE 12/6/00
We are excited to announce there will soon be
a new MANTRA SUNRISE album out we expect early next year.
Joel has been working heavily on a new concept album in Seattle.
The story from what we are told is about a futuristic space
traveler who en route to deliver food and supplies to a distant
human colony loses contol of his ship at frightening speeds
and realizes he will never be heard from again.
The songs on the album will follow the emotional rollercoaster
of our unfortunate pilot as he must confront his own inner
demons and somehow come to terms with his most unusual destiny.
10/30/00
Pre production on the new album is nearly completed and we are often called a slow
moving operation!...Joel has made changes and modifications that he felt were
important to the concept and imperative for the musicality of the piece..
The studio is booked for late November and Nolan Stolz will be on the drum stool
this time as both he and John Miner are splitting recording time between Art Rock
Circus and Mantra Sunrise..We should have some mp3s up soon for sneak preview....
.
HEAVENS CAFE'
5/2/00 There are no current performances scheduled
for the rock opera HEAVENS CAFE' although negotiations have started for future
performances...check back soon for updates!
John was recently quoted... "HEAVENS CAFE' I can assure you,
will never become a syndicated kareoke show like JCS! (Superstar)". The music
will always be performed by a live band!"
ART ROCK CIRCUS has been performing quite an array of
material from the Opera.....including such favorites
as Astralography, Tower of Information, Never Alone,
and Labyrinth.....among others.
.
ART ROCK CIRCUS
5/2/00 ART ROCK CIRCUS has performed 13 shows since
last November including the Arts Factory/ The National Exibition
2000 Festival and a series of shows at Breathe. The new lineup
features John Miner on guitar and vocals, the multi talented
Darren Copeland on Bass and drummer extrodinaire Nolan Stolz!
...Set lists have included material from Mantra Sunrise as well
as Heavens Cafe' along with A PASSAGE TO CLEAR.
Both Nolan and Darren are in study at the
UNLV music department. PASSAGE TO CLEAR drummer Devon Lebsack
is back at Berklee College of Music in Boston. A new album by
ART ROCK CIRCUS untitled at this point, is slated to be a double
length concept album and over half of the record has recently been
laid to tape..New ARC drummer Nolan Stolz has already put his hands
in the concrete and his playing is "about as good as anything
we've heard".... and there are just not enough hours
in a day to get everything done around here at once
..or are there?
Nolan is also working on a solo project of rock versions of
such classical composers as Stravinsky and Mahler as well as others....Art Rock Circus has been recording in the studio for the
last month and a half working on the follow up to "A Passage to Clear" which by the way
is scheduled for January Release...Everything is ready to go and with the three
recent releases keeping us more than busy we decided to pospone A Passage to Clear
release till first thing next year....The new double length CD will be out in spring
right on the tail of "A Passage to Clear" ...Very prolific times here at Tributary!
We should then have tour dates for next summer both here and abroad.
.
JOHN MINER
On top of the new Mantra Sunrise record and the new
double album project John is also producing a record for the
label with Ron Parrish consisting exclusively of solo
Chapman Stick arrangements composed by Parrish...he's
regarded as one of the master players of this most demanding
instrument. Ron was one of Emmett Chapman's first disciples
and even worked in the shop and tested the instruments in the
early era of Stick development.
The Stick was first introduced in the 70s.
Most recently John has been writing new material for the
new
Art Rock Circus Album and is currently back living in Seattle in
the very cool U district...John will be returning to Las Vegas in
Sept to record tracks for the new Mantra album... this time to be
produced by Joel. tour dates are in the works and it's possible
Mantra will take So Cal proggers "Atlantis" with them for their
west coast tour..
